Happy Valentine's Day
It seems to me that Valentine's Day, as an adult, is a holiday for couples. Romance. Red roses and boxes of chocolates. For the single person, Valentine's Day is not a fun holiday because, for some reason, it is marketed as a time to express love that only belongs to those who are in a romantic relationship. What a narrow definition of love we seem to have on this holiday. For all of my single friends out there who feel this day only serves as a way to put you down, I have something to say:
You are loved.
Even if you are single and you don't have a person to call your Valentine. Even if you don't feel lovable. Even if you don't know how to receive it or don't know what it means to be loved.
This Love is unconditional. Adores you, relentlessly pursues you, 365 days a year, not just on February 14. Loves you for who you are and wants only the best for you. Always. Even when you screw up or turn away or deny it is there.
This Love will not leave you feeling rejected or not good enough. Won't play mind games with you or tell you that it "just wants to be friends." Won't shut you out or leave you for someone else.
And when your heart is broken or you feel alone, this Love will be there to comfort you, right by your side, even when you don't see it or feel it.
Whatever your Valentine's Day may bring, don't forget this one thing: You are loved! But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
Psalm 86:15
